My precious HTC family
Today the Lord has given me an insight from His Word, that I have not seen before. In Joshua 6:1-27, we read the incredible story of the defeat of the city of Jericho by Joshua and the Israelites. The strategy the Lord gave Joshua to defeat and destroy the city of Jericho was an unusual one. The strategy involved waiting, walking, silence and then worship.
The insight the Lord gave me was in the aspect of ‘silence’. Why were the people to be silent? What was significant about the silence and how is it significant to our situation in SA, under COVID-19 Lockdown?
In Joshua 6:10, we read of Joshua’s instruction to the people regarding the battle to come: Joshua commanded the people saying, ‘You shall not shout or make any noise with your voice, nor shall a word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I say to you, ‘’shout’’, then you shall shout.’ It seems in giving this command, that Joshua was acutely aware that Israel’s 40 year punishment in the wilderness was as a result of their murmuring in unbelief. In other words their grumbling and negative words brought destruction on them.
Joshua took seriously the lessons of history and so must we, if we are to grow through seasons like the one we are in right now.
The lesson for us today is this: When facing great challenges, do not permit your lips to speak unbelieving words. Prohibit demoralizing speech from your lips. Remember that words can either bind up or set free.
We cannot help what we see and hear but we can choose to refuse to speak doubts and fear. In doing so, we will keep our hearts inclined to what God can do, rather than to what we cannot.
Bless you all,
