Dear HTC family and friends,
What always saddens me, is to see how we, Christians, make our Lord seem so small. Our reactions, our attitudes, our declarations, and reflections so often convey this message. We forget that the world around us, our colleagues, our friends, and family are watching us and listening to us- what we say, how we react to news, and what we post on social media. Without realizing it we are saying that our Lord Jesus is small, and that He is not enough for us.
I believe we need to remind ourselves constantly who our Lord is- the One whom we worship, love, trust and serve. We need to remind ourselves that He is always enough for us. The reality is that the Lord we serve is a great big God. He is omnipotent (all-powerful), omniscient (all-knowing), and omnipresent (ever-present). Isaiah declares who He is, ‘Our Redeemer, the Lord Almighty is His name.’ (Isaiah 47:4). Nothing is impossible for Him (Luke 1:37). He can do all things, and no plan of His can ever be thwarted (Job 42:2). The highest heavens, the earth and everything in it belong to Him (Deuteronomy 10:14). Everything (both seen & unseen) was made in Him, by Him, through Him and for Him (Colossians 1:16).
He is the still the same God who said, ‘Let there be’ and it was (Genesis 1). He is still the same God, who commanded the wind and the waves to be still, and they obeyed (Mark 4:39). He is still the same God, before whom the mountains melt like wax and the valleys split apart (Micah 1:4). He is still the Lord of all the earth (Psalm 97:5).
Jesus’ death on the cross secured full and complete salvation for all who believe in His Name (Romans 3:21-26). He is able to save completely all who come to God through Him (Hebrews 7:25). He is now seated in the heavenly realms far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is invoked (Ephesians 1:19-21). Before Jesus, and at His name, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that He is Lord (Philippians 2:20).
And then there all these incredible promises: He is able to do immeasurably more than we can ask or imagine according to His power that is at work within us (Ephesians 3:20); nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from His love (Romans 8:38-39); in all things we will be more than conquerors, through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37); His grace is all sufficient for us (2 Corinthians 12:9); He will supply all our needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus.
Listen again to what Jesus gives to all His followers: ‘I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions, and to overcome all the power of the enemy (Satan)’ (Luke 10:19). The same power (the power of the Holy Spirit), that raised Jesus Christ from the grave, is available to all followers of Jesus, who have been filled with His Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:19-21). Whatever we ask the Father, in Jesus’ name, He will do, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father (John 14:13).
Friends, our Lord is not small. He is certainly all that we need, all the time. Those around us cannot see and believe in our great and mighty God, unless our lives proclaim Him as such. Christians, we need to act, behave and speak as though who believe, worship and follow the One, who is the great and mighty God, and who is absolutely always enough for us. Should not our testimony always be, my God is always more than able; He is always bigger, greater and stronger than anything we face in this world; He is always Lord of all and over all; He is God and He reigns forever.
‘I am the first and I am the last; apart from me there is no God… I am the Lord & there is no other… there is no God apart from Me, a righteous God and a Savior; there is none but me… before me every knee will bow; and by me every tongue will swear.’ (Isaiah 44:6-8/ 45:5,21-23)
Jesus, you are enough for me!
Bless you all
